Organizational Context
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office manages over 250 projects across 40 countries, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected regions. The North Africa Multi-Country Office (NAMCO) in Tunis oversees operations in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Morocco, supporting socio-economic development through projects in health, justice, climate action, and environmental preservation, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals.
Job Purpose
The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans to support project and programme objectives within the North Africa region. This involves analyzing communication landscapes, managing content creation across various platforms, and ensuring effective stakeholder engagement. The role is crucial for enhancing the visibility of UNOPS's work and achievements, fostering strong relationships with partners, and contributing to the overall success of development initiatives by clearly articulating project impacts and strategic messages to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute communication strategies and plans aligned with project objectives, analyzing local contexts and target audiences to optimize outreach. Create diverse editorial content, including press releases, social media posts, website content, videos, and fact sheets, ensuring high-quality output tailored for key audiences. Manage editorial calendars and coordinate content production across multiple channels, collaborating with technical experts to produce comprehensive reports and features. Maintain effective communication with donors, clients, and partners, supporting the organization of external events and high-level missions. Contribute to knowledge building by facilitating training sessions and participating in knowledge-sharing initiatives, while also supporting partnership development by identifying opportunities and assisting in proposal preparation.
Work Experience
Requires relevant experience in communications, public relations, media, or journalism. Proficiency in collaboration tools like MS Office and web-based management systems is necessary. Experience in multicultural or UN environments, development/humanitarian contexts, and graphic design/video production tools is desirable.
