Job Purpose
The Driver will ensure the safe and reliable transportation of UNOPS personnel and goods within Niger, adhering to UN security and safety procedures. This role is crucial for the effective execution of the Lafia Iyali project, which focuses on the construction of district hospitals in the Maradi and Zinder regions. By providing secure and timely transport, the driver directly contributes to the project's operational efficiency and the safety of its staff and assets, facilitating the movement of personnel to intervention sites and the delivery of essential project materials.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for safe and punctual transportation of authorized personnel, including airport pick-ups and transport to intervention sites. Key duties include maintaining vehicle cleanliness and ensuring all required documents (insurance, registration, maintenance logs) are valid and up-to-date. The role involves meticulous record-keeping of mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules via Google Drive. The driver must perform daily vehicle checks (oil, water, brakes, tires) and basic repairs, ensuring vehicles meet MORSS standards. Incident reporting and documentation are critical. The driver must also be aware of security issues, liaise with security personnel before departures, and provide feedback on local conditions. Additionally, the role includes administrative and logistical support, such as assisting with office supply procurement, managing inventory records, and coordinating minor facility repairs.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience as a driver is required. Desirable experience includes at least two years in vehicle maintenance and prior driving experience with NGOs or international organizations.
