Job Purpose
The Associate Information Management Officer reports to the Information Management Officer. Furthermore, it plays a vital part in building information management capacities, coordinating with technical staff and partners, and providing essential IM support during emergency preparedness and response, thereby directly impacting the effectiveness and coherence of humanitarian action and alleviating human suffering.
Responsibilities
The Associate Information Management Officer is responsible for comprehensive data management, governance, and analytical support. This includes acting as the primary focal point for data activities, compiling, cleaning, and harmonizing diverse datasets, and developing robust databases and data collection systems. The role involves supporting analytical strategies, conducting needs assessments, and contributing to regional analytical frameworks and data standards. A key duty is producing high-quality analytical reports, interactive dashboards, and visual summaries that transform complex data into actionable insights for various audiences, alongside designing communication campaigns for IM products. The officer also leads data visualization and mapping efforts, creating impactful infographics and leveraging advanced visualization technologies, including AI-integrated platforms, to develop online databases and business intelligence tools. This involves serving as a focal point for data systems and establishing rigorous QA/QC procedures for geospatial and mapping products. Furthermore, the role entails significant coordination, knowledge management, and training. This includes collaborating with technical staff and partners to enhance data flows and quality, providing remote and on-site IM support, especially during emergencies, and designing capacity-building initiatives on IM, emerging technologies, and data protection. The officer monitors IM trends and participates in first responder mechanisms like UNDAC. Finally, the position provides critical surge IM support during crises, contributing to rapid assessments, flash updates, and situational monitoring, and engaging in crisis-specific working groups as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years (with Master's) or four years (with Bachelor's) of experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, statistics, project management, or related fields is required. Essential experience includes using data for decision-making and strategy implementation, along with proficiency in self-service analytics and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) or business intelligence tools. Experience with version control (Git), databases, or programming languages (SQL, Python, R) is desirable. Recent information management experience in a UN regional office and advanced Excel/PowerPoint skills are assets.
