Organizational Context
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is part of the UN Secretariat, responsible for coordinating humanitarian actors to ensure coherent emergency responses. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective humanitarian action, advocate for the rights of those in need, and promote preparedness. This Driver position is based in the OCHA Maiduguri Office.
Job Purpose
The Driver (GS-2) in the OCHA Maiduguri Office is responsible for providing reliable and secure driving services. This includes transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and assisting with airport arrivals and departures for official personnel and visitors. The role also involves ensuring cost-savings through proper vehicle use, maintaining daily logs, and contributing to vehicle maintenance plans and reports. The Driver is expected to ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with all necessary documents and supplies, and to take immediate action in case of accidents, reporting to the Administration Assistant.
Responsibilities
Provide reliable and secure driving services for authorized personnel, mail, documents, and visitors, including airport pick-ups and drop-offs. Ensure cost-effectiveness by maintaining accurate daily vehicle logs and contributing to vehicle maintenance plans and reports. Perform day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including minor repairs, oil changes, tire checks, and ensuring the vehicle is clean. Maintain all required vehicle documents, insurance, first aid kits, and spare parts. Adhere to all rules and regulations, taking immediate action in the event of an accident and ensuring insurance validity.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver is required. Experience driving office vehicles, including armored vehicles, and performing day-to-day vehicle maintenance is necessary. Experience within the UN or a comparable international organization, and in an emergency context in northeast Nigeria, is desirable.
