Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) is part of the UN Secretariat, responsible for coordinating humanitarian actors to ensure coherent responses to emergencies. This Driver/Clerk role supports the efficient functioning of the UNOCHA field office in Kharkiv, Ukraine, by providing essential logistics and administrative services.
Job Purpose
The Driver/Clerk is responsible for providing reliable and secure driving services for authorized personnel within the city and to regions, including potential overnight trips and during security phases. This role also involves meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport. The position ensures cost-effective vehicle operation through proper maintenance and log keeping. Additionally, the Driver/Clerk provides crucial administrative and clerical support, including mail delivery, document handling, and assistance with visa and customs formalities, directly contributing to the smooth and efficient operations of the UNOCHA office in Ukraine.
Responsibilities
The Driver/Clerk is accountable for providing secure and reliable transportation for authorized personnel within the city and to regional areas, including overnight travel and during security-sensitive periods. This includes meeting and assisting official visitors at the airport. The role mandates diligent vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs, scheduled servicing, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and operational. Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs and ensuring all necessary documents (insurance, maps, first aid) are available are key duties. The Driver/Clerk also provides essential administrative and clerical support, such as delivering and collecting mail and documents, assisting with visa and customs procedures, and performing other general office support tasks as required, ensuring the efficient functioning of the field office.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in driving and/or transportation is required, with a safe driving record. Experience in logistics, administrative support, general office management, and proficiency with MS Word and Excel are also necessary. Experience driving armored vehicles is mandatory. Experience with the UN or international organizations, and within the region, is desirable.
