The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. UNIDO's mission is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in Member States, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This position is within the Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women Division (SPP/GEW), responsible for implementing UNIDO's Gender Policy and Strategy for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women. The division coordinates gender mainstreaming efforts, identifies trends and best practices, and serves as UNIDO's focal point for gender equality and women's empowerment.
Job Purpose
To accelerate and improve results on gender equality and the empowerment of women within selected UNIDO programmes and projects by enhancing the capability of project management teams, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to effectively mainstream gender perspectives during the implementation phase.
Responsibilities
Act as the main focal point for all gender-related activities of the project. Conduct in-depth reviews and assessments of project design and implementation with a gender lens. Collect sex-disaggregated baseline data. Assess gender awareness and sensitivity of project beneficiaries and stakeholders. Conduct gender sensitization training for project staff. Develop or update a Gender Action Plan. Assist in recruitment to ensure gender equality and focus. Conduct regular site visits to monitor gender activities and report on progress. Identify and mitigate unanticipated risks or negative gender impacts. Engage and support relevant government agencies, NGOs, and women's associations to enhance gender results.
Work Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in gender equality and gender mainstreaming. Experience in gender analysis tools and methodologies, gender planning, and mainstreaming gender in projects/programmes is required. Thorough understanding of the gender context in the country or region, and experience working with government institutions and NGOs supporting gender and development work is required. Desirable experience includes formal training in gender analysis and planning, evaluating needs in the country/region, and strong communication skills for liaising with stakeholders.
