Organizational Context

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency promoting industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. UNIDO's mission is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Member States, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and SDG-9. The organization focuses on areas such as fair supply chains, innovation for food security, renewable energy, and climate action, supported by its four enabling functions: technical cooperation, research and policy advice, normative functions, and partnership building.

Job Purpose

To lead the UNIDO Country Office in Iran, representing UNIDO, managing its activities, fostering partnerships, and contributing to national development goals through technical cooperation and resource mobilization.

Responsibilities

Represent UNIDO and maintain relations with local stakeholders. Lead country office activities and contribute to national development goals. Identify donor priorities. Lead the development, implementation, and resource mobilization for technical cooperation projects and programmes. Coordinate and report on UNIDO activities, engaging with UN system coordination mechanisms. Strengthen partnerships with government, private sector, and other organizations. Advocate for UNIDO's work. Manage country office financial and human resources, ensuring compliance and security. Apply Results-Based Management principles.

Work Experience

A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor's degree, 7 years with a master's degree, or 5 years with a doctorate. This includes progressively responsible experience in economic development, technical cooperation at a senior level, country needs assessment, team supervision (technical and non-technical), representational functions, and experience within the UN system. Experience in intergovernmental bodies, strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, and data-driven decision-making is desirable.
