Organizational Context
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) promotes inclusive and sustainable industrial development. This position is located within the Facility Management Services (COR/BMS), which is responsible for the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of the Vienna International Centre (VIC) buildings and associated installations, adhering to local building codes, standards, and operating license conditions.
Job Purpose
To provide multi-skilled masonry and painting functions, assisting with the construction, refurbishment, repair, and maintenance of building structures and office installations within the Vienna International Centre.
Responsibilities
Assist in constructing and refurbishing simple building structures, walls, ceilings, and doors using materials such as brick, gypsum plasterboard, and wooden acoustic panels. Repair, maintain, assemble, paint, and fit office constructions, walls, doors, windows, furniture, and built-in cabinets. Operate and maintain machines and equipment for masonry and painting tasks, including brick chisels, trowels, drilling, sawing, and spray painting tools. Follow all applicable rules, regulations, and security instructions, handling machines, equipment, and materials competently and safely, including wearing protective clothing. Ensure all duties are carried out with due consideration for environmental and quality standards. Stay abreast of the latest technologies, norms, standards, and regulations. Record relevant work information in the Facility Management Electronic Workorder Platform. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the masonry field is required with completed secondary education. A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is required with a first-level university degree or higher. Good physical condition is essential, as the work involves considerable physical exertion, including walking long distances, standing, crouching, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and working on high scaffolds and ladders or in inconvenient positions. The ability to work at irregular hours and within short notice is also required.
Skills
Proficiency in masonry and painting techniques. Ability to operate and maintain relevant machines and equipment. Strong adherence to safety and security protocols. Capability to record work information accurately. Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the internet.
