Organizational Context
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. UNIDO's mission is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Member States, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and SDG-9. The Directorate of Strategic Planning, Programming and Policy (SPP) oversees industrial policy research, statistics, SDG9 reporting, and Knowledge Management (KM). The Division of Knowledge Management (SPP/KMG) develops and operationalizes UNIDO's KM framework, focusing on generating, using, and sharing knowledge to achieve development impact and provide value for money.
Job Purpose
To support the development and prototyping of a Publications Database and other knowledge dissemination platforms, enhancing internal and external access to UNIDO's knowledge products.
Responsibilities
Assist in designing and developing web applications for knowledge product access. Support the creation of user-friendly interfaces for managing KM content on platforms like SharePoint or Opentext. Conduct reviews of software tools and AI-driven services for improved search functionality. Research AI-driven search possibilities for contextual search of knowledge materials. Develop wireframes and mockups for database platforms. Design and create Communities of Practice and online forms with workflows. Participate in tool integration with existing UNIDO platforms. Document technical findings and architectures. Coordinate with IT colleagues and support research on KM trends and best practices.
Work Experience
Experience with SharePoint setup and functionalities, Power Apps, and Opensearch. Interest in knowledge management systems, digital libraries, document management, or enterprise search solutions is advantageous. Ability to research and evaluate digital tools, especially open-source or AI-enhanced platforms for document indexing and retrieval. Good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team.
Skills
Basic web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and familiarity with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue). Exposure to backend technologies (Python, PHP, Node.js) and REST APIs. Understanding of relational/NoSQL databases and content management. Familiarity with software development lifecycle and version control (Git). Experience with SharePoint, Power Apps, and Opensearch. Ability to research and evaluate digital tools, including AI-enhanced platforms. Strong communication and organizational skills.
