Organizational Context
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. UNIDO's mission, aligned with the 2030 Agenda and SDG-9, is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Member States. This position is within the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Japan, which strengthens cooperation between Japan and developing countries by facilitating investment and technology transfer. The ITPO Japan office focuses on identifying and promoting investment and technology projects, supporting new business development in the Global South through technology transfer from Japan, and fostering innovation, resilient value chains, and industrial infrastructure networks.
Job Purpose
To develop and implement communication strategies and activities for UNIDO's Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Japan, supporting core projects and the Global South industrial cooperation program. The role aims to enhance the visibility of UNIDO's initiatives, promote technology transfer and investment, and foster partnerships through effective communication and digital engagement.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement communication strategies and action plans for ITPO Tokyo core projects and the Global South project. Create, edit, and proofread content for project-related documents, reports, and online platforms. Design and produce communication materials (brochures, fact sheets, videos). Manage social media channels and website updates to promote project progress and achievements. Coordinate communication activities with national and regional counterparts. Liaise with internal and external partners, including media institutions. Respond to information requests and manage project-related correspondence. Coordinate event management and provide technical guidance to communication personnel.
Work Experience
A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, 5 years with a Master's, or 3 years with a Doctorate. Experience in project execution or coordination, particularly in public relations and communication strategy development for technical cooperation projects, is required. Experience in drafting, editing, and writing press releases and media assets, and tailoring messages for different audiences is also required. Advanced proficiency with creative applications (e.g., Adobe Suite, website editing software) is desirable.
