Conference Technician
Organizational Context
UNIDO promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. This role is within Facility Management Services, responsible for the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of the Vienna International Centre (VIC) buildings and installations. The incumbent is part of the Electronics & Conference Servicing team, supporting conferences for UNOV, UNIDO, and CTBTO.
Job Purpose
To provide technical conference services, including operating and maintaining audio-visual and simultaneous interpretation equipment, setting up conference rooms, and ensuring smooth technical operations for meetings and events.
Responsibilities
Manage technical conference operations, including simultaneous interpretation equipment and recording speeches. Operate data projectors and coordinate with other building management units. Assist interpreters and ensure equipment functionality. Operate video conferencing systems for remote and hybrid meetings. Prepare conference rooms by performing system tests. Transport, install, and operate audio-visual equipment. Operate equipment for radio-studio type activities and AV equipment in the Press Briefing Room. Perform general maintenance and functional checks on equipment. Set up and operate mobile AV equipment for events in other VIC areas. Comply with safety rules and update technical documentation. Provide input for technical specifications and assist with equipment/spare parts procurement. Act as backup for the team leader and coordinate with meeting organizers.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a conference/communication technician with higher technical education, or 3 years with a university degree. Experience using modern measuring instruments and special tools is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet usage is required. Knowledge of trade techniques, new equipment, and work processes is desirable.
