Job Purpose
The Construction Specialist will be responsible for managing and monitoring all construction activities within the Country Office, including school infrastructures and health centers. This role involves providing essential technical support to UNICEF's Programmes and Operations concerning construction and rehabilitation projects. The incumbent will contribute to the preparation of the Construction Annual Workplan, collaborate with UNICEF Programmes/Operations, and coordinate with Government Counterparts. Key functions include preparing design and technical documents, supporting procurement processes, and diligently monitoring construction projects to ensure successful outcomes and adherence to standards. This position is crucial for the effective implementation of infrastructure development initiatives aimed at improving children's access to essential services.
Responsibilities
The Construction Specialist will develop and manage the Construction Annual Workplan, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic objectives and country-level needs. A significant part of the role involves close collaboration with UNICEF Programmes/Operations teams and effective coordination with Government Counterparts to facilitate project execution. The specialist will be responsible for preparing detailed design and technical documents, ensuring they meet required standards and specifications. Furthermore, the incumbent will provide crucial support throughout the procurement processes for construction-related goods and services, ensuring compliance and efficiency. A primary responsibility will be the rigorous monitoring of all construction projects, including site supervision, quality assurance, and progress tracking, to ensure timely completion within budget and to the highest quality standards. This includes identifying and mitigating risks, resolving technical challenges, and reporting on project status.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in construction is required. This experience should encompass project management, site supervision, quality assurance, and other directly related technical fields.
