Job Purpose
The Education Specialist (Learning Recovery) will lead the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of learning recovery strategies and programmes within the country. This role provides technical leadership and programmatic support throughout the programming cycle to ensure interventions are evidence-based, context-responsive, and integrated into national education systems and UNICEF-supported programmes. The focus is on strengthening foundational learning, supporting assessment systems, accelerating learning, improving teaching and remediation practices, and promoting systems' resilience to prevent future learning disruptions. The specialist will work with counterparts, partners, and stakeholders to advance guidance, strategies, and investments that improve learning outcomes and ensure equitable, inclusive, and resilient education systems, prioritizing children out of learning or at risk of being left behind.
Responsibilities
The Education Specialist will be responsible for supporting programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's Strategic Plan and accountability framework. They will manage programme implementation, monitor progress, and deliver results through effective resource management and results-based management (RBM). The role involves providing technical and operational support to ensure the effective implementation of learning recovery initiatives. This includes strengthening foundational learning, supporting assessment systems, accelerating learning, improving teaching and remediation practices, and promoting systems’ resilience to prevent and mitigate future learning disruptions. The specialist will also contribute to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the education sector. A key aspect is working closely with education counterparts, implementing partners, and internal and external stakeholders to advance guidance, strategies, and investments that improve learning outcomes and ensure equitable, inclusive, and resilient education systems, with a particular emphasis on reaching vulnerable children.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in Programme Planning, Management, and/or research in Education is required. Experience in Social Development Programme Planning, Management, and/or Data Management is also required.
