The Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) provides independent assurance on risk management and internal controls, reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Investigations Section handles allegations of misconduct and wrongdoing.
Job Purpose
The Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) is seeking two part-time interns to support the Strategy, Intake & Analysis (SIA) team within the Investigations Section. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in investigations, policy development, and data analysis within a leading international organization. Interns will assist in reviewing incoming reports, gathering information, conducting open-source searches, and analyzing evidence to make recommendations for case resolution. They will also contribute to drafting reports, managing case files, and supporting intake processes. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of UNICEF's internal oversight functions, contributing to the protection of children's rights and the efficient use of resources.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Chief, Investigations (SIA) and direct supervision of an Investigation Manager, interns will review incoming reports and gather additional information, including conducting open-source searches, to perform initial assessments. They will analyze available information and evidence, preparing recommendations for case resolution, including whether matters warrant full investigation. Interns will draft various reports, such as closure notes and referral memoranda, and compile supporting documentation. They will assist with the intake of new matters by responding to incoming reports, initiating cases in the case management system (CMS), and organizing case files. Responsibilities also include assisting with evidence collection, participating in witness interviews, and reviewing/analyzing interview transcripts. Furthermore, interns will help prepare statistical and other reports by compiling and analyzing case-related data for stakeholders. They may also assist with legal research, policy review and development, and the preparation of donor reports and communications as needed, undertaking other assigned tasks by OIAI management.
