Organizational Context

UNICEF operates in over 190 countries, dedicated to saving children's lives, defending their rights, and helping them reach their full potential. We are committed to promoting the rights of every child, everywhere, with a focus on equity for the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families. Our work accelerates progress towards realizing children's human rights and supports equitable national development.

Job Purpose

The Education Officer will contribute to the development, planning, management, monitoring, and delivery of results for UNICEF's education programmes in Sudan. This role is critical given the severe education crisis exacerbated by the ongoing conflict, where millions of school-aged children are out of school and at risk of not returning. The officer will support programme activities, conduct research, analyze data, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that children's right to education is protected and promoted. The position aims to provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of the programming cycle, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and contributing to the realization of equitable education opportunities for all children in Sudan, thereby mitigating the impact of the crisis on their future and the nation's stability.

Responsibilities

1. Support to programme development and planning: Contribute to situation analysis for education programmes, researching and reporting on development trends and data for programme design, management, monitoring, and evaluation. Assist in establishing sectoral programme goals, objectives, and strategies, and in results-based planning through analysis and reporting of education-related information. Provide technical and administrative support throughout programming stages, executing transactions, preparing documentation, and ensuring compliance with organizational processes and management systems for planning, RBM, and M&E. 2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results: Collaborate with internal colleagues and partners to collect, analyze, and share information on implementation issues. Propose solutions for routine programme implementation challenges and report issues to alert officials and stakeholders for intervention. Maintain records of reports and assessments to capture lessons learned. Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews, and annual sectoral reviews with government and counterparts, preparing minutes and reports for follow-up actions. Monitor and report on the use of sectoral programme resources, verifying compliance with allocations, rules, regulations, and donor commitments, and reporting issues for timely resolution.

Two years of professional experience in programme planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation in the field of education or a related area. Experience working in a humanitarian context or in developing countries is an asset.
