Job Purpose
The Driver/Messenger (GS-2) will provide reliable and safe driving services, adhering to the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, and integrity. This role involves ensuring compliance with local traffic laws and regulations while demonstrating a client-oriented approach and a high sense of responsibility. The position requires courtesy, tact, and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver/Messenger will also be responsible for routine vehicle care and maintenance, utilizing digital tools for tracking, documenting trips, and reporting. Additionally, the role includes supporting office operations during periods of low driving demand, ensuring the smooth functioning of the office and contributing to the overall mission of UNICEF in Samoa.
Responsibilities
Provide safe and reliable driving services for UNICEF staff, consultants, and visitors, ensuring punctuality and adherence to schedules. Maintain the assigned vehicle in a clean and roadworthy condition, performing routine checks on oil, water, tires, and brakes. Report any mechanical issues promptly to the supervisor and arrange for necessary repairs. Ensure the vehicle is equipped with all necessary safety equipment and first-aid supplies. Accurately log all vehicle usage, including mileage, fuel consumption, and destinations, in accordance with UNICEF procedures. Safely transport documents, mail, and other items between UNICEF offices and external locations. Assist with office support tasks during idle periods, such as photocopying, filing, or running errands. Be prepared for emergency situations, possessing knowledge of emergency procedures and contact information. Demonstrate a high level of discretion and professionalism when interacting with colleagues and external contacts. Comply with all local traffic laws, regulations, and UNICEF's vehicle policies. Keep abreast of local road conditions and potential hazards to ensure safe travel. Ensure the security of passengers and cargo at all times. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while on duty.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record.
