Job Purpose

The Child Protection Specialist supports the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of child protection programmes in the country. Reporting to the Chief, Child Protection or Manager, the Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming cycle. The role is crucial in contributing to national and international efforts to create a protective environment for children, safeguarding their rights to survival, development, and well-being as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international frameworks. The Specialist ensures programmes align with UNICEF's Strategic Plans, RBM principles, and national priorities, contributing to concrete and sustainable results for children.

Responsibilities

Support the preparation and updating of situation analyses for child protection programmes, ensuring comprehensive data for policy advocacy and intervention design. Participate in strategic discussions to plan child protection programmes, formulating proposals aligned with UNICEF's Strategic Plans, Country Programme, UNDAF, and national priorities. Establish specific goals, objectives, strategies, and implementation plans using RBM, preparing necessary documentation for programme review. Collaborate with colleagues and partners to discuss strategies, methodologies, and national priorities for sustainable results. Provide technical and operational support throughout programming to ensure integration and coherence with other UNICEF sectors and achievement of results. Monitor and evaluate programme performance, identifying challenges and recommending adjustments. Ensure effective and timely reporting on programme activities and outcomes. Manage programme resources efficiently and effectively, adhering to financial and administrative regulations. Contribute to building the capacity of national partners in child protection. Advocate for child protection issues at national and sub-national levels.

Work Experience

At least two years of professional experience in child protection programming, including experience in programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Experience working in a developing country context is an asset.
