Job Purpose
As Finance Associate, you will report to the Budget & Finance Specialist and play a key role in strengthening UNICEF Malawi’s financial accountability, stewardship, and operational efficiency. You will provide high-quality finance and accounting support, contributing to effective financial management, compliance, and the efficient use of resources across the organization. In this role, you will support a broad range of financial management activities by delivering accurate and reliable financial information, analysis, and services that strengthen accountability, support informed decision-making, and promote the effective use of organizational resources. The role also involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance on financial procedures, resolving discrepancies, maintaining audit-ready records, and contributing to continuous process improvements. Through a strong commitment to integrity, accuracy, and service excellence, you will help safeguard resources and support efficient financial operations that contribute to better results for children.
Responsibilities
UNICEF Malawi’s finance function enables programme delivery and as Finance Associate, you will strengthen stewardship, timely payments, compliance and audit-ready operations that deliver better results for children. This includes providing high-quality finance and accounting support, contributing to effective financial management, compliance, and the efficient use of resources across the organization. You will support a broad range of financial management activities by delivering accurate and reliable financial information, analysis, and services that strengthen accountability, support informed decision-making, and promote the effective use of organizational resources. The role also involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance on financial procedures, resolving discrepancies, maintaining audit-ready records, and contributing to continuous process improvements. Work Experience
At least 6 years of relevant work experience in Financial Management, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Budgeting, Treasury, Expense Management, Financial Compliance, Financial Analysis and any other related fields.
Skills
Strong knowledge of reconciliations, financial reporting, and transaction processing, Ability to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and resolve irregularities, Experience in cost estimates, year-end accounts, and audit documentation, Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP), Proficiency in financial management applications, Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Proficiency in digital tools for data management, analysis, and reporting, Strong communication skills, Strong interpersonal skills, Strong client-service skills, Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
