Organizational Context

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential. The Angola Country Office is seeking a WASH Officer to support its Country Programme 2024-2028, focusing on climate-resilient WASH and WASH in emergencies, while also contributing to Disaster Risk Reduction and Anticipatory Action agendas.

Job Purpose

The WASH Officer will provide professional technical, operational, and administrative support throughout the programming processes. This role involves applying theoretical and practical technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing, and presenting programme information. The officer will learn and adhere to organizational rules, regulations, and procedures to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Climate Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction output results within the Country Programme. The position is crucial for advancing the WASH agenda in Angola, ensuring effective programming and contributing to the overall goals of UNICEF in the country, particularly in areas related to climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness for children.

Responsibilities

The WASH Officer will be responsible for programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic objectives and the Angola Country Programme. This includes contributing to the design and formulation of WASH-related projects and initiatives. The role involves programme management, monitoring, and delivery of results, tracking progress against targets, and ensuring timely and effective implementation. Technical and operational support for programme implementation will be a key function, providing expertise and guidance to partners and stakeholders. The officer will also be involved in humanitarian WASH preparedness and response, contributing to emergency readiness and effective interventions when needed. Networking and partnership building with government entities, NGOs, and other UN agencies will be essential for successful programme delivery. Furthermore, the role will focus on innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building, promoting best practices and strengthening the capabilities of local partners in the WASH sector.

Work Experience

At least 1 year of relevant work experience in areas such as United Nations, Emergency response, Water & Environmental Sanitation, Social and Behavior Change, Hygiene, Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Resilience, Anticipatory Action, Humanitarian Response, or Program Management.
