Job Purpose

The Child Protection Officer (NO-B) TA will support the effective planning, implementation, coordination, and quality assurance of child protection interventions. The role will focus particularly on the prevention of violence against children (VAC), harmful practices such as child marriage and child labour, and addressing gender-based violence, abuse, and neglect of children. This position is crucial for strengthening child protection systems and ensuring that all children have the opportunity to survive, develop, and reach their full potential without discrimination. The incumbent will contribute to UNICEF's fundamental mission of promoting the rights of every child, everywhere, in all aspects of the organization's work, aligning with the equity strategy and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Responsibilities

The Child Protection Officer will work closely with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA), the Department of Women Affairs (DWA), other government counterparts, UNICEF colleagues, and implementing partners. The incumbent will support the establishment and strengthening of Child Protection Community Hubs (CPCHs) and other community-based child protection mechanisms. This includes promoting prevention strategies for violence against children (VAC), harmful practices like child marriage and child labour, and gender-based violence. The role involves ensuring the quality of child protection interventions, contributing to effective planning and implementation of programs aimed at protecting children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The officer will also play a part in monitoring and evaluating the impact of these interventions, providing technical support to partners, and advocating for child protection policies and practices at the community and national levels. This position is key to advancing UNICEF's commitment to child rights and equity.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of professional experience in child protection, social work, or a related field is required. Experience in programme planning, implementation, and monitoring, particularly in the context of child rights and protection, is essential. Experience working with government counterparts and NGOs is also desirable.
