Job Purpose
The Nutrition Officer provides professional, technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for nutrition programmes and projects within the Country Programme. This role is crucial for supporting development planning and ensuring the delivery of results. The incumbent contributes to programme success by executing various technical and administrative tasks that facilitate programme development, implementation, progress monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. This involves conducting situation analyses, defining programme goals and strategies, and providing recommendations for priority setting. The position requires close collaboration with colleagues and partners to address operational challenges, offer solutions, and escalate issues when necessary, ensuring efficient resource utilization and compliance with organizational standards and donor commitments.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Officer supports programme development and planning by conducting and updating situation analyses for nutrition sectors to inform programme design and management. They contribute to setting programme goals, objectives, strategies, and results-based planning by analyzing nutrition needs and identifying intervention areas, submitting recommendations for priority setting. The role provides technical and operational support throughout all programming stages. In programme management, monitoring, and delivery of results, the officer works collaboratively with colleagues and partners to resolve implementation issues, offering solutions and escalating concerns for decision-making, while documenting lessons learned. They monitor and report on the use of sectoral programme resources, ensuring compliance with allocations, rules, regulations, donor commitments, and accountability standards. Regular and mandated reports are prepared for management, donors, and partners. The officer provides technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGOs, UN system partners, and other stakeholders on UNICEF policies, strategies, and best practices in nutrition to facilitate programme implementation and results delivery. Networking and partnership building involve maintaining close working relationships with government counterparts and national stakeholders, sharing information and knowledge to build capacity and achieve programme goals. Participation in inter-agency meetings (UNCT) is expected for collaboration and integration of UNICEF's strategies within the UNDAF process. Researching potential donors is also part of this function.
Work Experience
Two years of professional experience in programme planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation in the field of nutrition or public health. Experience working in a developing country context is an asset. Experience with UNICEF or other UN agencies is desirable.
