Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to develop a National Male Engagement Strategy for Zimbabwe. This strategy will be evidence-based, context-specific, and aligned with national, regional, and international gender equality frameworks. The consultant will conduct a comprehensive review of existing policies, programmes, research, and best practices, and engage stakeholders to identify opportunities and challenges for male engagement. The ultimate goal is to create a practical strategy with clear objectives, implementation approaches, monitoring indicators, and partnership mechanisms to strengthen national efforts in engaging men and boys as partners in advancing gender equality, promoting women's rights, preventing violence, and fostering inclusive communities.
Responsibilities
The consultant will lead the development of the National Male Engagement Strategy by undertaking a comprehensive review of existing policies, programmes, research, and best practices related to gender equality and male engagement in Zimbabwe. This will involve conducting thorough stakeholder consultations with government ministries, civil society organizations, community leaders, and other relevant actors to gather diverse perspectives and ensure the strategy is context-specific. The consultant will assess current opportunities and challenges for effectively engaging men and boys in gender equality initiatives, including GBV prevention and the promotion of women's rights. Based on this analysis, the consultant will develop a practical and actionable strategy document. This document must include clear objectives, strategic directions, recommended implementation approaches, robust monitoring and evaluation indicators, and effective partnership mechanisms. The strategy should also promote positive masculinity and contribute to the transformation of harmful gender norms, fostering inclusive and equitable communities. The consultant will ensure the strategy aligns with national, regional, and international gender equality frameworks.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience in research, programming, monitoring and evaluation, and strategy development, specifically within the areas of gender programming and mainstreaming.
