Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to hire an international expert to provide technical support for a needs assessment. This assessment will focus on how digital tools, including AI, can support the uptake of newly developed teaching and learning materials and the structured pedagogical approach introduced to pre-primary and primary school teachers and head teachers in Sierra Leone. The findings will be crucial in informing subsequent steps, which may include the development of new tools or content, training on existing or new tools, small-scale investments in innovative solutions, or other options determined by the assessment results. This role is essential for enhancing teacher capacity and improving educational outcomes through technology.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment on the use of digital tools, including AI, to support teachers and head teachers in Sierra Leone. Analyze the current landscape of digital tools and their potential application in enhancing the uptake of new teaching and learning materials and pedagogical approaches. Identify specific needs and challenges faced by teachers and head teachers in adopting digital solutions. Develop recommendations for the development of new digital tools or content, or for training on existing and new tools. Propose options for small-scale investments in innovative educational technology solutions based on the assessment findings. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies and non-government organizations, to gather information and validate findings. Prepare a detailed report outlining the needs assessment methodology, findings, and actionable recommendations. Ensure that the assessment considers best practices in responsible AI use for educational purposes. Facilitate capacity-building workshops if required, focusing on digital materials and tools for teachers. Contribute to the design of digital tools for teacher capacity building, ensuring alignment with pedagogical goals and local context.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of experience in developing blended learning, education technology, and teacher capacity development. Strong understanding of early grade teaching methods, teacher training, and inclusive education. Experience in designing digital tools for teacher capacity building and proven experience training teachers on digital materials.
