Job Purpose
The Chief Health, P-4, in the UNICEF Nepal Country Office, reports to the Deputy Representative and is responsible for the comprehensive management and supervision of all health programmes. This includes strategic planning, formulation, and delivery of results across various health areas such as maternal, neonatal, child survival, adolescent mental health, non-communicable diseases, and emergency preparedness. The incumbent will lead and manage the health team, developing action plans to achieve sustainable results aligned with UNICEF's Strategic Plans, results-based management, and accountability frameworks, in consultation with the Regional Health Adviser. The role is crucial in supporting Nepal's health sector, addressing persistent disparities, and responding to emerging health challenges like child and adolescent mental health, while contributing to the upcoming Country Programme and UNICEF's global strategy.
Responsibilities
The Chief Health will provide managerial leadership to the health team, driving programme development and strategic planning in alignment with UNICEF's global and country-specific objectives. Key responsibilities include overseeing the programme management, monitoring, and delivery of results, ensuring effective implementation of health initiatives and achieving measurable outcomes. The role involves providing expert advisory services and technical support to the government and partners on health policies and interventions. Furthermore, the Chief Health will be responsible for advocacy, networking, and building strong partnerships with government ministries, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance programme impact and sustainability. A critical aspect of the role is fostering innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the health team and among partners, ensuring that UNICEF's health programmes in Nepal are evidence-based, effective, and responsive to evolving needs. This includes contributing to emergency preparedness and response efforts, and ensuring integration with other sectors like nutrition and WASH.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of professional experience is required in health and programme management, public health, maternal, child and newborn health, immunization, mental health, health systems strengthening, health emergency preparedness, health policy, monitoring and evaluation, or partnership development.
