Job Purpose
The incumbent will provide strategic and technical coordination for the Nutrition Cluster in Mali, ensuring an effective, coherent, and needs-based nutrition response. This involves fostering collaboration between governmental and humanitarian partners, conducting needs assessments, planning and monitoring interventions, managing sector information, and engaging in advocacy and resource mobilization. The role also focuses on strengthening actor capacities, promoting quality standards, and preparing for and coordinating responses to nutrition emergencies, thereby contributing to improved nutrition outcomes for children in Mali.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Specialist will provide technical leadership in emergency nutrition, coordinating the Nutrition Cluster to ensure a unified and effective response. Key responsibilities include leading needs assessments, developing and implementing nutrition strategies, and monitoring intervention progress. The role involves managing sector information, producing situation reports, and contributing to humanitarian response plans. Advocacy for nutrition priorities and resource mobilization will be crucial. Strengthening the capacity of cluster partners through training and technical support is essential. The specialist will also ensure inter-sectoral coordination with other humanitarian clusters and relevant government bodies. Preparation and response to nutrition emergencies, including rapid assessments and contingency planning, are core functions. The position requires maintaining strong partnerships with authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and donors to achieve cluster objectives and improve nutrition for vulnerable populations.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in nutrition programs within humanitarian and/or development contexts. Proven experience in coordinating humanitarian sectors or working groups, preferably within the cluster system. Experience in needs assessment, strategic planning, monitoring, and information management is required.
