Job Purpose
The UNICEF Nutrition Strategy 2020–2030 aims to assist national governments and partners in safeguarding children's right to nutrition and eradicating child malnutrition globally. It emphasizes tailored, inclusive programs prioritizing prevention and treatment. This role supports the Chief of Nutrition in providing technical assistance, advocacy, grant oversight, and quality assurance for food systems aspects of nutrition programs in Kenya. The Specialist will contribute to partnerships with stakeholders, provide authoritative technical guidance, and manage country programming processes to achieve sustainable results in food systems programs, aligning with UNICEF's Strategic Plans and accountability framework.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Specialist TA will provide technical support in the development and implementation of policies, programs, advocacy, and knowledge generation for food systems transformation for children, addressing all forms of malnutrition across young children, school-age children, adolescents, and mothers. This includes supporting evidence generation and strategy development to operationalize UNICEF's global work on Food Systems within the Kenyan context. The role involves contributing to the development of tools and guidance, fostering innovation, generating and analyzing evidence, creating knowledge products, and promoting thought leadership. The Specialist will also facilitate partnerships with stakeholders such as UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and academic institutions on food systems for children. They will offer expert technical guidance and management support throughout country programming, ensuring alignment with results-based management approaches and UNICEF's strategic objectives and performance standards.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in nutrition, public health, or food systems, with a focus on program development and implementation. Experience working with governments and international organizations is desirable. Experience in developing countries is an asset.
