Job Purpose
The Driver (G-2) will provide reliable and safe driving services, ensuring strict adherence to local traffic regulations and UNICEF protocols. This role requires the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, adaptability, and protocol awareness. The incumbent will also be expected to support administrative tasks and engage in self-directed learning during periods of low driving demand. A client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and a strong sense of responsibility are essential for effective collaboration with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The position is for a Temporary Appointment of 4 months, based in Libreville, Gabon.
Responsibilities
The Driver will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for UNICEF staff and authorized personnel, ensuring the security of passengers and cargo. This includes performing routine checks on the vehicle to ensure it is in good mechanical condition, clean, and ready for use, and reporting any defects or required maintenance promptly. The driver will maintain the vehicle in a clean and presentable condition, adhering to UNICEF's vehicle maintenance schedule. They will also be responsible for the accurate and timely use of digital tools and tracking systems for trip logging and reporting. The driver will meticulously document all trips, including mileage, fuel consumption, and destinations, and submit regular reports as required. They will ensure communication equipment is functional and be prepared for emergency situations, responding appropriately to accidents or breakdowns. During idle periods, the driver will support office operations with administrative tasks, such as delivering and collecting documents, assisting with mail, or other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This role demands a proactive approach to vehicle care and a commitment to supporting the overall operational efficiency of the UNICEF office.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system, with a proven safe driving record.
