Job Purpose
The consultancy aims to provide technical support for the design and implementation of child-friendly service spaces in Fiji and Samoa, as part of a project to prevent drug use among children and youth. The consultant will undertake facility assessments, conduct community and stakeholder consultations, prepare construction-related documentation, and advise on suitable implementation modalities. This role is crucial for strengthening prevention, protection, and response mechanisms for children and adolescents by establishing and rehabilitating child-friendly hubs in various settings, including hospitals, police stations, community spaces, and schools. The objective is to create safe and supportive environments that contribute to the overall well-being and development of children and youth in the target countries.
Responsibilities
Undertake comprehensive facility assessments for proposed child-friendly service spaces in hospitals, police stations, community centers, and schools. Conduct detailed community and stakeholder consultations to gather input and ensure the design meets local needs and requirements. Prepare all necessary construction-related documentation, including architectural drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities (BoQ). Provide expert technical advice on suitable implementation modalities for the rehabilitation and establishment of these spaces. Ensure that all designs and implementation plans adhere to UNICEF's safeguarding policies and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) standards. Develop cost estimations for rehabilitation and construction works. Prepare technical reports detailing findings, recommendations, and progress. Collaborate with local partners and government agencies to facilitate smooth project execution. Monitor the progress of rehabilitation and construction activities, ensuring quality and adherence to timelines. Contribute to the overall project management and reporting framework for the drug use prevention initiative.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure assessment, design, or construction supervision. Experience working on child-friendly or community spaces, public buildings (schools, clinics, police stations), and small-scale rehabilitation works is highly desirable.
