Job Purpose

The Chief of Health, reporting to the Deputy Representative, is responsible for the overall management and leadership of all stages of health programmes and projects. This includes strategic planning, formulation, and delivery of results for areas such as gender, maternal, neonatal, child survival, and emergency preparedness. The role involves leading and managing the health team, establishing action plans to achieve concrete and sustainable results using results-based management approaches, aligning with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, performance standards, and accountability framework, in consultation with the Regional Health Adviser. The position requires driving impactful health initiatives to ensure the well-being and rights of children.

Responsibilities

The Chief of Health provides managerial leadership, overseeing the health team and ensuring effective programme development and planning. Key responsibilities include managing, monitoring, and ensuring the quality of results for health programmes and projects. The role involves providing advisory services and technical support to stakeholders, as well as actively engaging in advocacy, networking, and partnership building to advance UNICEF's health agenda. Furthermore, the Chief of Health is expected to drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the health sector. This includes developing and implementing strategies for gender, maternal, neonatal, child survival, and emergency preparedness, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans and global standards. The position requires a proactive approach to achieving sustainable results and enhancing the health outcomes for children in the region.

Work Experience

A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience at the international level is required in areas including public health planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
