Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Deputy Representative of UNICEF and social policy focal point in Equatorial Guinea, the consultant will support the national team, under the technical leadership of the National Institute of Statistics of Equatorial Guinea (INEGE), in conducting a study on child poverty using data from the ENH2. This consultancy aims to provide in-depth analysis of child and adolescent poverty in Equatorial Guinea, contributing to evidence-based policy formulation and program design. The consultant will be responsible for the methodological design, data analysis, and reporting of the study, ensuring high-quality outputs that inform UNICEF's social policy interventions and support the government's efforts to address child poverty. The findings will be crucial for identifying vulnerable households and children, prioritizing interventions, and ultimately improving the well-being of children and adolescents in the country.

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for the overall management and execution of the study on child and adolescent poverty in Equatorial Guinea. This includes developing a detailed research methodology, including sampling strategies and data collection protocols, in collaboration with INEGE. The consultant will lead the data analysis phase, employing advanced statistical techniques to identify patterns and determinants of poverty among children and adolescents. This involves cleaning and processing the ENH2 data, developing poverty indices, and conducting regression analyses to understand the factors contributing to poverty. Furthermore, the consultant will be tasked with drafting comprehensive reports that clearly present the study's findings, including policy recommendations for social protection interventions. The consultant will also present the results to key stakeholders, including UNICEF, INEGE, and other government entities, facilitating discussions and ensuring the uptake of findings into policy and programming. The role requires independent research capabilities and strong collaboration with national counterparts.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in developing scoring systems or similar for identifying and prioritizing vulnerable households and children, based on poverty analysis and proposing targeting criteria for social protection interventions for households with children or adolescents. Strong methodological knowledge and competence in data analysis, statistics, and report writing for social development programs.
