Job Purpose
Reporting to the Deputy Representative Operations, this role leads UNICEF's end-to-end supply chain operations, ensuring the timely, efficient, and accountable delivery of goods, services, and construction works crucial for achieving programme results for children. The specialist will oversee supply planning, procurement, contracting, customs clearance, warehousing, inventory management, logistics, and distribution, adhering strictly to UNICEF policies and ethical standards. Key responsibilities include managing and developing the supply team, fostering strong internal and external collaboration, and providing strategic technical support to governments to enhance national supply chain systems. The role also drives innovation, promotes local market development, and improves supply chain performance for better efficiency and value for money. In emergency situations, the specialist will lead logistics preparedness and response, developing operational strategies, coordinating with partners, and ensuring business continuity to strengthen operational resilience and mitigate risks.
Responsibilities
Lead UNICEF Malawi’s supply chain operations, ensuring timely, efficient, and accountable delivery of goods, services, and construction works that advance results for children. Oversee end-to-end supply chain management, including supply planning, procurement, contracting, customs clearance, warehousing, inventory management, logistics, and distribution, in strict adherence to UNICEF policies and ethical standards. Manage and develop the supply team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Cultivate strong internal and external collaboration with programme teams, operations, government counterparts, suppliers, and partners. Provide strategic technical support to governments to strengthen their national supply chain systems, promoting sustainability and local capacity building. Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the supply chain, leveraging digital tools and emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, transparency, and timeliness. Promote local market development to ensure sustainable and cost-effective sourcing of goods and services. Enhance overall supply chain performance to maximize efficiency and value for money. In emergency contexts, lead logistics preparedness and response efforts by developing robust operational strategies, coordinating effectively with key partners, and ensuring business continuity. Strengthen operational resilience and mitigate supply chain risks to directly contribute to impactful and sustainable results for children.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience at national and international levels in supply, logistics, procurement, contract management, supply chain management, warehouse management, customs clearance, vendor management, transportation, emergency logistics, public procurement, or a related field.
