Job Purpose
The Social and Behavioural Change Officer (Girls Empowerment) will provide critical technical, operational, and administrative support for the implementation and monitoring of Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) strategies focused on girls’ empowerment. This role ensures the continuity of programme delivery, especially for high-priority initiatives supported by major donors. The position contributes to a cross-cutting programme strategy that analyzes and addresses the cognitive, social, and structural determinants of individual practices and societal changes in both development and humanitarian contexts. SBC utilizes social and behavioral sciences to understand people, their beliefs, values, socio-cultural norms, and economic/institutional contexts to engage them and increase their influence in designing solutions for change.
Responsibilities
The Social and Behaviour Change Officer will support strategy design and the development of SBC activities, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's mandate and donor requirements. They will also provide crucial support to the implementation of these SBC activities, working closely with communities and partners to achieve desired behavioral changes. A key aspect of the role involves advocacy, networking, and building partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies, to promote girls' empowerment and child rights. Furthermore, the officer will contribute to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the SBC field, sharing best practices and lessons learned. This includes supporting research, data collection, and analysis to inform program design and adaptation. The role also entails monitoring and evaluation of SBC interventions, reporting on progress, and ensuring accountability to beneficiaries and donors. Financial management and reporting related to SBC activities will also be a core responsibility, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Work Experience
At least 1 year of relevant work experience in Social Development Programme Planning, Communication for Development, Social Behaviour Change, Public Advocacy, or any other related fields.
