Job Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Supply and Logistics Officer, the incumbent provides assistance and support to the Logistics Unit in the management of shipping, air freight, customs clearance, tax clearance, and any insurance-related matters. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and timely movement of goods and supplies, supporting UNICEF's mission to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach. The position contributes to the overall supply chain operations, ensuring that life-saving supplies and essential resources reach children and communities in need, both in development and emergency contexts.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will provide input to customs clearance and shipping activities, participating in forecasting, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of supply chain operations. This includes establishing performance indicators and assessing the suitability of products and services. The role involves managing correspondence and documentation for offshore supplies with the Supply Division, global forwarding agents, and suppliers. The Senior Supply/Logistics Associate will manage air/seaport and customs clearance activities through regular follow-up with partners, including government authorities and clearing agents, to expedite processes. They will maintain regular contact with local government authorities and program partners to facilitate customs clearance. The position requires close monitoring of bonded stock status and Goods in Transit (GIT) on a regular basis. The incumbent will monitor direct handovers to implementing partners (IPs), ensuring Vision-related details are updated and closed. They will provide country-specific guidance on shipping matters such as packing, containerization, mode of shipment, staggering, and routing, and provide advice for shipping instructions for offshore purchase orders. The role involves monitoring the collection of Model 19s, GRNs, and Shipping Area Deliveries in Vision, identifying outstanding items monthly. Ensuring correct customs clearance procedures are maintained and preparing status reports on shipments for UNICEF management and program staff are key duties. Finally, the incumbent will facilitate payments related to in-country logistics, freight forwarding, and local customs clearance.
Work Experience
At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in operations, supply management, contracting, logistics, supply chain management, procurement, customs clearance, shipping, freight forwarding, inventory management, vendor management, government liaison, import/export activities, or other related fields is required.
