Job Purpose
The consultancy aims to bolster India's child protection system by offering strategic and technical assistance, with a particular emphasis on enhancing access to justice for children, promoting disability inclusion, and combating violence against children (EVAC). The consultant will leverage their expertise to support the Child Protection Specialist in New Delhi by coordinating with stakeholders and developing essential technical materials. These efforts will be geared towards strengthening child protection and justice systems, ensuring alignment with both national objectives and established global frameworks, thereby contributing to a safer and more equitable environment for children in India.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide crucial technical support to UNICEF India's portfolios focused on Access to Justice, Disability Inclusion, and Ending Violence Against Children (EVAC). This involves supporting the implementation of national and state-level priorities through comprehensive research, active stakeholder engagement, effective knowledge management, meticulous documentation, and the creation of technical products that align with UNICEF's workplan and government priorities. Key activities include reviewing and analyzing the implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and its associated rules across UNICEF-supported states, identifying gaps and emerging trends, and formulating recommendations for policy and practice enhancement. The consultant will also contribute to evidence generation and policy dialogue on child online protection, addressing issues such as age-appropriate social media access, platform accountability, reporting mechanisms, and emerging digital and AI-related risks. Furthermore, they will support the planning and documentation of national consultations, such as commemorating the Juvenile Justice Act's anniversary, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making by analyzing and disseminating findings from judicial proceedings.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in child protection, access to justice, disability inclusion, or ending violence against children. Experience working with government institutions, UN agencies, or NGOs in India is highly desirable.
