Job Purpose

The consultancy aims to provide essential technical, facilitation, and knowledge-management support to the Accelerating Sanitation and Water for All (ASWA) programme and other UNICEF country programmes. The goal is to enhance the integration of gender-intentional approaches within WASH programmes. This involves consolidating, disseminating, and advocating for evidence and best practices on gender-equitable WASH generated through ASWA's implementation. The role will contribute to transforming power structures that perpetuate unequal gender relations and norms, aligning with UNICEF's Gender Equality Action Plan 2026-2029. The consultant will operationalize gender action plans, document lessons learned, and embed gender equality more deliberately in ASWA programming, while strategically positioning ASWA's gender evidence within UNICEF's broader global agenda and sharing lessons across sectors and the wider WASH community.

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for generating thought leadership, knowledge, and evidence related to gender equality in WASH programmes. This includes developing and disseminating high-quality reports and knowledge products. A key responsibility is advocacy and influence, positioning ASWA's gender evidence within UNICEF's global agenda and engaging with the wider WASH community. The consultant will also provide capacity building and technical support to country teams across multiple regions and contexts, helping them operationalize their gender action plans. This involves facilitating knowledge management processes, documenting lessons learned from ASWA implementation, and ensuring gender equality is deliberately embedded in programming. The role requires excellent facilitation, communication, and advocacy skills, including representation in global interagency forums and conferences. The consultant will also support the consolidation and dissemination of evidence and practice on gender-equitable WASH, contributing to the ASWA programme's strategic objectives and UNICEF's broader gender equality commitments.

Work Experience

At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in WASH programming, with a specific focus on integrating gender-intentional approaches within WASH programmes.
