Job Purpose

This position aims to support the implementation and development of multi-country partnerships with the private sector, encompassing both financial and non-financial engagement. It involves facilitating the participation of African companies, key stakeholders, and Country Offices (COs) in Business engagement and Child Rights and Business (CRB) initiatives to advance programmatic goals. The role will also provide support to COs in evidence generation, strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation of CRB and business engagement, alongside leading capacity-building efforts within the region. The specialist will advise on and support the development of partnerships, including due diligence, pitch development, and negotiation, particularly in sensitive industries. Account management for existing partnerships to foster growth will also be a key function.

Responsibilities

The Corporate Alliances Specialist will provide advice and support to Country Offices (COs) in identifying, developing, and finalizing financial and non-financial partnerships, including those with CRB, advocacy, or other non-financial elements. This includes due diligence, pitch development, and negotiation, especially for sensitive industries like extractives. The specialist will also interact directly with prospective partners for multi-country partnerships and steward existing ones for growth. They will support the implementation of UNICEF's strategic guidance on business engagement, industry engagement, and CRB, offering technical guidance to COs and the regional office on income and influence. This involves training, utilizing business engagement and CRB tools, and documenting best practices. The role will advise on Business engagement, influence, and CRB initiatives at the country level and lead regional initiatives with industry bodies, associations, platforms, and governments. Furthermore, the specialist will provide technical guidance to businesses on integrating child rights into their policies and operations, leading on key industry agendas and using UNICEF's CRB tools to influence business practices. They will also support COs in integrating business into Country Programme Documents (CPDs) and planning processes, and lead regional/multi-country initiatives to build evidence around business impacts.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in partnership development, corporate social responsibility, business development, or a related field is required. Experience working with the private sector in developing countries is an asset.
