Job Purpose
The WASH Officer, with a focus on emergency response, will provide professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programmes and projects in the Amhara region. This role is crucial for advancing the survival and well-being of children, mothers, and affected communities in emergencies. The officer will be responsible for preparing, executing, managing, and implementing a variety of technical and administrative tasks to support the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of WASH in emergency interventions, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's goals and standards.
Responsibilities
The WASH Officer will contribute to the situation analysis for WASH in emergencies, researching and reporting on trends to inform programme development and management. They will prepare technical reports and documentation, ensuring accuracy and relevance. The role involves contributing to the establishment of WASH-related outcome and output results and strategies by analyzing sector needs and priorities. Providing technical and administrative support throughout the programming process, including executing technical transactions and preparing documentation, is key. The officer will collaborate with colleagues and partners to collect and analyze implementation data, identify issues, and propose solutions, escalating critical matters when necessary. They will participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews, and sectoral reviews, preparing reports on results. Monitoring the use of programme resources, verifying compliance with regulations, and reporting on identified issues are also essential. The role includes preparing sectoral progress reports for management, donors, and partners, and undertaking field visits to collect data and report on critical issues. Providing technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGOs, and other partners on UNICEF policies and best practices in WASH is required. Additionally, the officer will contribute to WASH reporting for UNICEF's Core Commitments for Children (CCCs) in humanitarian action, situation reports, and donor reports.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming, with a focus on emergency preparedness and response, is required. Experience working with UN or other international development organizations is an asset.
