Job Purpose

The Social Policy Section at UNICEF Sri Lanka supports the government in strengthening evidence-based policies, public finance, and social protection systems for children and vulnerable populations. We advocate for child-sensitive, inclusive, and shock-responsive social protection programs, generate evidence for policy decisions, and support coordination among various stakeholders. This internship offers practical experience in social policy and social protection, contributing to key initiatives like social protection reforms, voucher assessments, knowledge generation, and national/regional engagements.

Responsibilities

The intern will support the Social Policy Section in implementing ongoing program activities and policy engagement processes. This includes contributing to research, coordination, documentation, data management, and communications support. The intern will assist in various key initiatives such as social protection reforms, the pregnancy voucher assessment, knowledge generation and dissemination activities, and the organization of national and regional engagements. The role involves gaining practical exposure to UNICEF’s work on social policy and social protection, under the guidance of the Social Policy Officer. The intern is expected to help in strengthening evidence-based policies, public finance, and social protection systems to improve outcomes for children and vulnerable populations in Sri Lanka.

Work Experience

No prior work experience is required, but relevant volunteer experience or academic projects related to social policy or social protection will be considered an asset.
