Job Purpose

The WASH Officer will provide technical, operational, and administrative assistance for the WASH programming process within the Janakpur field office, covering Madhesh province. This role involves preparing, managing, and implementing tasks related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH output results, contributing significantly to the Nepal country programme. The officer will also offer technical support to provincial and local governments and implementing partners to enhance WASH systems, institutional capacity, and ensure safely managed, climate-resilient service delivery. A key aspect of this position is contributing to humanitarian preparedness and response, especially in drought and flood-prone areas, while advocating for evidence-based programming, cross-sectoral collaboration, and equitable access to sustainable WASH services for all children.

Responsibilities

1. Programme development and planning: Contribute to the development and strategic planning of WASH programmes in alignment with UNICEF's country programme and global goals. 2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results: Oversee the implementation of WASH projects, ensuring timely delivery of results and adherence to budgets and timelines. Monitor progress, identify challenges, and implement corrective actions. 3. Technical and operational support for programme implementation: Provide expert technical guidance and operational support to government counterparts and implementing partners on water supply, sanitation, hygiene promotion, and climate-resilient WASH strategies. 4. Humanitarian WASH preparedness and response: Support the development and implementation of strategies for humanitarian preparedness and response, particularly in emergency-prone areas, ensuring timely and effective interventions. 5. Networking and partnership building: Establish and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies, local authorities, NGOs, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and leverage resources. 6. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building: Promote innovative approaches in WASH programming, document lessons learned, and build the capacity of partners through training and technical assistance.

Work Experience

At least 2 years of relevant work experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), including WASH systems strengthening, WASH governance, rural water supply, sanitation, hygiene promotion, climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, humanitarian response, programme management, or monitoring and evaluation.
