Job Purpose

The Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) is an international household survey programme developed and supported by UNICEF, designed to collect estimates of key indicators to assess and monitor the situation of children and women. MICS has evolved significantly over three decades, expanding its scope to over 250 indicators and becoming a crucial source of data for child protection, early childhood education, child health, and nutrition. It provides valuable data for monitoring national goals and global commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Regional Household Survey Consultant will support the preparation, implementation, and quality assurance of country survey operations through specialized technical assistance, document review, and oversight of MICS activities and trainings.

Responsibilities

The Regional Household Survey Consultant will provide specialized technical assistance during various phases of MICS survey implementation, both remotely and on-site. This includes supporting the preparation and implementation of survey operations and ensuring quality assurance. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing survey documents, overseeing MICS activities, and conducting trainings for national counterparts. A key aspect of the role involves collaborating with National Statistics Offices, particularly in the ESAR region, and strengthening their capacity in MICS survey methodology. The consultant will also be involved in survey data tabulations, quality assessments, and the preparation of survey reports. Experience in field testing of survey instruments and providing technical assistance is an asset, as is experience with modules related to mental health, violence, and foundational learning.

Work Experience

At least 10 years of experience in coordinating and/or managing quantitative household surveys such as MICS (DHS is an asset). Experience collaborating with National Statistics Offices in ESAR, and in training/capacity strengthening on MICS methodology. Experience in survey data tabulations, quality assessments, and report preparation.
