Job Purpose
The Nutrition Specialist, based in the UNICEF Field Office in Ambovombe, Madagascar, plays a crucial role in managing and coordinating nutrition programs across the Grand Sud regions (Androy, Anosy, and Atsimo-Andrefana). Reporting to the Nutrition Chief and the Chief of Field Office, the incumbent provides technical leadership and oversight to sub-national stakeholders and partners. This position is responsible for supporting the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of a sector of the country's nutrition program. The specialist ensures that maternal, infant, and child nutrition programs achieve concrete and sustainable results, adhering to UNICEF's strategic plans, results-based management, and accountability frameworks.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Specialist is accountable for supporting the development and planning of nutrition programs, ensuring alignment with country and global strategies. This includes conducting needs assessments, developing program proposals, and contributing to the overall nutrition strategy. A key responsibility is the effective management, monitoring, and delivery of results for assigned nutrition projects, ensuring timely implementation and achievement of objectives. The incumbent will provide essential technical and operational support to program implementation at the sub-national level, guiding partners and stakeholders. Building and maintaining strong networks and partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other UN agencies is vital for program success. Furthermore, the role involves fostering innovation, managing knowledge, and building the capacity of local partners and staff in nutrition-related areas. A significant aspect of the role is ensuring effective nutrition coordination across the Grand Sud regions, facilitating collaboration and synergy among various actors to maximize impact and address the complex nutritional challenges faced by children and communities.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care.
