Job Purpose
The Communication Officer will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's communication strategy in Ukraine, particularly in Dnipro. This position involves developing and implementing communication activities to promote the rights of children and highlight UNICEF's work and achievements. The officer will be responsible for creating and disseminating compelling content across various media platforms to reach a wide audience, including the general public, media, and stakeholders. By gathering relevant information on country efforts and focusing on core advocacy and communication priorities, the role aims to enhance UNICEF's visibility and impact. This includes producing advocacy materials, human interest stories, and ensuring timely and effective media relations to communicate the story of UNICEF's cooperation and its commitment to children's well-being and development.
Responsibilities
The Communication Officer will be responsible for implementing assigned tasks within the country and field office communication work plan and strategy. This includes gathering content and coverage of relevant country efforts to identify effective programme activities and results, and developing complementary, country-specific materials. The role involves supporting the production of advocacy and communication materials such as briefing notes, images, videos, and web pages, ensuring they align with country and global standards. The officer will assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, and human interest stories for both web-based and traditional media. Furthermore, they will follow up on the production of advocacy materials, overseeing qualitative aspects like quality control and reviews, and maintaining an up-to-date documentation center for communication assets. The position also requires recommending appropriate information and communication materials and established contacts for media and advocacy activities. Additionally, the officer will provide effective and timely professional assistance in developing and maintaining contact information, materials, and relationships with journalists and media outlets across print, TV, radio, and web to communicate UNICEF's cooperation story to a wider audience, ensuring rapid and accurate information dissemination.
Work Experience
At least two years of relevant professional experience in communication, journalism, media relations, or a related field. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and producing communication materials is essential. Experience working with UN or other international organizations is an asset.
