Job Purpose

The Senior Supply & Logistics Specialist, under the supervision of the Chief, Emergency and Coordination Centre, will be deployed up to 70% of the time to Country Offices to support and manage emergency response activities. This includes supply and distribution planning, pipeline development, and rapid expansion of logistics services. The role involves providing guidance to Country Office management on staffing structures for emergency response and supporting emergency supply communications through various platforms and documentation. The incumbent will also build relationships with UN sister agencies, support inter-UN trainings, and play a driving role in humanitarian reviews and the implementation of the humanitarian development continuum, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of essential supplies.

Responsibilities

When deployed to support emergencies, the Senior Supply & Logistics Specialist will establish adequate Supply and Logistics response strategies, including supply and distribution plans, and provide expert advice on supply and logistics to ensure cost-effective and timely program input. They will review procurement strategies, coordinate with Supply Division centers, and ensure efficient supply operations systems. The specialist will align with new initiatives and best practices, manage staff, and ensure clear roles and responsibilities. Responsibilities include overseeing supply chain operations, preparing documentation, advising NGOs and UN agencies on logistics, coordinating offshore and in-country logistics with government counterparts and third-party providers, and managing personnel and resources to meet objectives. Collaboration with programme sections for supply involvement in program design and monitoring is crucial. The role also involves using category management for spend analysis and organizing training for emergency management strengthening. When not deployed, the specialist will coordinate preparedness, establish monitoring systems, conduct training, undertake field visits, and support the identification of needs.

Work Experience

A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, or related areas, with at least four years in emergency response contexts. Experience in international organizations or humanitarian settings is highly desirable.
