Job Purpose

Under the guidance of the Deputy Representative, this role is responsible for establishing and implementing the Nepal Country Office's emergency preparedness and response strategies. The incumbent will lead the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of emergency interventions to ensure the survival and well-being of children, mothers, and affected communities during emergencies. This includes providing technical oversight to field offices, coordinating with section heads, and ensuring effective emergency project management. The aim is to strengthen the country office's capacity to respond to humanitarian crises affecting children and their families.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive emergency preparedness plans, including risk assessment, contingency planning, and capacity building for staff and partners. During emergency responses, the specialist will coordinate all UNICEF-supported interventions, ensuring alignment with humanitarian principles and national/international standards. This includes managing emergency projects from initiation to closure, overseeing budget utilization, and ensuring timely reporting. The role involves providing technical guidance and support to field offices, fostering collaboration with the Chief Field Offices and Kathmandu-based sections. Key responsibilities include monitoring the humanitarian situation, identifying emerging needs, and advocating for children's rights in emergency settings. The specialist will also play a crucial role in establishing and strengthening partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other UN entities for effective coordination and resource mobilization. Fundraising efforts to support emergency preparedness and response actions will also be a key component of this role.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration, with a significant portion involving fieldwork. Experience in humanitarian contexts is required.
