Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to develop, pilot, and finalize a competency-based, face-to-face teacher training package focused on safe and inclusive schools. This initiative builds upon the success of an existing online course and aims to equip education professionals with practical skills and knowledge for disaster risk reduction and resilience. The developed training package will serve as a standardized regional resource, adaptable for delivery by Ministries of Education and other institutions across the Caribbean to enhance the preparedness and resilience of education systems. The consultant will ensure the package emphasizes peer learning and school-level action planning, contributing to the continuity of education in the face of natural disasters and climate-related hazards.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for the comprehensive development of a competency-based teacher training package for safe and inclusive schools. This includes designing the curriculum, developing facilitator guides, participant manuals, assessment tools, and other adult learning resources. The consultant will pilot the training package, gather feedback, and make necessary revisions to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. They will conduct stakeholder consultations with Ministries of Education, regional organizations, and other relevant partners to ensure alignment with regional needs and priorities. The consultant will also facilitate workshops during the piloting phase and lead validation processes for the training materials. Furthermore, they will provide strategic technical advice on integrating comprehensive school safety, disaster risk reduction, education in emergencies, and resilience-building into the training. The consultant will ensure the package incorporates inclusive education, psychosocial support, gender-responsive approaches, and child safeguarding. Finally, they will finalize the training package for regional dissemination and support its potential institutionalization.
Work Experience
At least seven (7) years of professional experience in education programme design, curriculum development, instructional design, teacher professional development, or competency-based training. Demonstrated experience in designing competency-based training programmes, curricula, and learning materials for education professionals, with proven experience in Comprehensive School Safety, Disaster Risk Reduction in Education, or Education in Emergencies.
