Job Purpose

This role is crucial for supporting UNICEF's mandate and equity-focused approach in Venezuela, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes. The Health & Nutrition Officer will ensure that vulnerable children and adolescents, especially those affected by the disaster, receive timely access to quality health and nutrition services. This position is essential for strengthening the technical and operational capacity to plan, implement, monitor, and coordinate interventions targeting populations most affected by the emergency, thereby safeguarding their survival, health, nutrition, and overall development. The role contributes directly to the humanitarian response by addressing pre-existing vulnerabilities exacerbated by the disaster, such as damage to health facilities and disruptions in essential services.

Responsibilities

The Health & Nutrition Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing outreach health services, providing support for community-based primary health care, and conducting monitoring and field supervision. Key duties include engaging communities and managing risk communication, building capacity, and providing technical support to local partners. The role involves contributing to the Community Recovery of Essential Health and Nutrition Services and empowering communities to respond to public health risks. This includes planning and implementing primary health care and community-based health programs, with a specific focus on planning, coordinating, and monitoring immunization and vaccination activities. Additionally, the officer will implement community nutrition interventions, ensuring that services are delivered effectively to the most affected populations in the context of the emergency response.

Work Experience

A minimum of one year of professional work experience in planning, programming, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health programs is required. Experience in a program management function or as a technical expert in child survival and healthcare is also necessary. Relevant field work and emergency experience are essential.
