Job Purpose
The WASH Specialist (P-3) will report to the Chief of WASH (P-5) and is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of UNICEF's WASH programme in Sudan. This role provides technical and programmatic leadership for donor-funded and emergency WASH interventions, including specific projects funded by Dutch and KfW. The Specialist ensures programme quality, compliance, and achievement of results by leading performance monitoring, coordinating partners, supporting infrastructure rehabilitation and service delivery, and contributing to donor reporting, risk management, and results-based management. The position aims to support the delivery of safe, sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient WASH services in line with national priorities, donor commitments, and UNICEF policies and standards, contributing to the fundamental mission of UNICEF to promote the rights of every child.
Responsibilities
The WASH Specialist will be accountable for programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with national priorities and UNICEF strategies. They will manage, monitor, and deliver results for WASH programmes, providing technical and operational support for effective implementation. A key responsibility includes preparedness and response for humanitarian WASH situations, ensuring timely and effective interventions. The role involves networking and building partnerships with government bodies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance programme reach and impact. Furthermore, the Specialist will drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the WASH sector, sharing lessons learned and best practices. This includes supporting the rehabilitation of WASH infrastructure and improving service delivery, ensuring quality and sustainability. The position also requires contributing to donor reporting, managing programme risks, and implementing results-based management frameworks to ensure accountability and effectiveness in all WASH-related activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in planning, implementing, and managing WASH programmes in developing countries is required, including experience with donor-funded programmes. At least one year of field experience in a developing country is also required.
