The WASH Specialist will contribute to the design, planning, management, and implementation of the WASH programme in Sudan. This role is crucial in addressing the complex humanitarian and development crisis characterized by large-scale displacement, damaged infrastructure, and diminished public services, particularly affecting urban water and sanitation systems. The specialist will work to improve access to climate-resilient and sustainable water and sanitation services, strengthening the institutional capacity of State Water utilities and service providers. The position requires a proactive approach to overcome institutional, financial, and operational constraints that challenge the sustainability of water and sanitation services, ultimately aiming to ensure children and communities have access to safe drinking water and appropriate sanitation.

Monitor programme progress, identify challenges and bottlenecks, and develop and implement corrective actions. Provide technical guidance and support to government counterparts, implementing partners, and UNICEF field staff on WASH-related issues. Conduct field visits to assess needs, monitor project activities, and ensure compliance with standards and guidelines. Strengthen the capacity of local institutions and communities to manage and sustain WASH services. Prepare and submit regular programme reports, including progress updates, financial reports, and evaluations. Contribute to resource mobilization efforts by supporting proposal development and engaging with donors. Ensure that WASH interventions are gender-sensitive, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of vulnerable groups, particularly children. Collaborate with other sectors within UNICEF (e.g., Health, Education, Child Protection) to ensure integrated programming. Stay abreast of the latest developments, best practices, and innovations in the WASH sector.
