Job Purpose
Reporting to the Representative, the Advocacy and Communications Specialist leads the Advocacy and Communication section at UNICEF Iraq and supervises two roles: Communication Officer (NO-2) and Communication Associate (GS-6). The Advocacy and Communication Specialist is accountable for coordinating, networking, implementing and monitoring public advocacy strategies and associated products and activities on an on-going basis with public audiences with the objective of promoting awareness, understanding, support and respect for children’s and women’s rights, and support for UNICEF's mission, geared towards achieving advocacy impact in alignment with programme outcomes and overall advocacy and communication priorities in the country office, and in a coordinated manner with regional and global communication and advocacy priorities.
Responsibilities
Key functions and accountabilities include developing and implementing a public advocacy strategy, managing communication and media relations, engaging in networking activities, contributing to global priorities and campaigns, leading DRR and Humanitarian Advocacy efforts, overseeing monitoring and evaluation of communication activities, managing the team, building capacity of staff and partners, fostering stakeholder engagement, and undertaking other related duties as assigned. The specialist will ensure that all advocacy and communication efforts are aligned with UNICEF's mission and programme outcomes, contributing to the overall advocacy and communication priorities in the country office and in coordination with regional and global strategies.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Communication, Media, International Development, Humanitarian Assistance, Advocacy, or any other related fields.
