Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the development of a comprehensive set of minimum standards and guidelines for climate-resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in schools within Grenada. The consultant will play a crucial role in addressing the vulnerability of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like Grenada to climate change and natural disasters, which disproportionately affect children and threaten critical infrastructure, including school WASH systems. The assignment involves a thorough review of existing frameworks, assessment of current WASH facilities and services in schools, development of climate-resilient standards and guidelines, and a validation session with stakeholders. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance the resilience of WASH services in schools to withstand climate hazards, ensure continuity of education, and improve the overall well-being of students.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive literature review, examining national climate, education, and WASH sector frameworks, as well as relevant global and regional WASH in schools documents. This will be followed by on-site assessments of school WASH facilities and services to identify current gaps and challenges, including a climate risk and vulnerability assessment specific to school WASH infrastructure. Based on these findings, the consultant will develop concise, climate-resilient WASH in schools standards and guidelines tailored to Grenada's context. A validation session will be organized with stakeholders to gather input for finalizing these documents. Furthermore, the consultant will be tasked with developing and delivering training for selected education officials, school staff, and National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) personnel on the application of the developed standards and guidelines, ensuring they are equipped to conduct further downstream training and support implementation.
